Subject
Shock and Vibration testing of LCD monitors
Materials: Monitors: 17″
Objective and Background
The testing was conducted according the following:
Procedure
Mechanical Shock (operating)
Figure 1 shows the setup used for this test.
A video signal was applied to the monitors during the exposure.100 shocks per axis per direction were applied. The first set of shocks had an amplitude of 15G, a pulse duration of 6ms and ½-sine time waveform. The second set of shocks had an amplitude of 30G (6ms, ½-sine waveform).
Figure 2 shows a representative 15G shock while Figure 3 shows a representative 30G shock.
Free-Fall (non-operating)
The displays were tested in a packaged configuration.
Each package was dropped onto a concrete floor from a height of 80cm on various faces, edges and corners.
RandomVibration (non-operating)
The displays were tested in a packaged configuration.
The packages were placed into a fixture to simulate a shipping environment (see Figure 4).
A random vibration was applied for a duration of 30 minutes per axis over three mutually perpendicular axes.
Figure 5 shows the random vibration profile used (PSD vs. frequency).
Sinusoidal Vibration (operating)
The setup was identical to the setup used for Test 6 (mechanical shock).
A sinusoidal sweep (shown in Figure 6) was applied to the displays along three mutually perpendicular axes.
A total of 10 sweeps per axis were performed.
Anti-Shock and Vibration Design Display
What is this technology?
Following the different demands of anti-shock and vibration in all different kinds of applications, we can provide different grades of shock or vibration standards for our product range. With the choice of high tech materials such as butyl rubber, ENR, high damping silicone and SBR and the right mechanical design, we ensure the compliance of the required testing standards. The keep from the damage from vibration and shock in transportation, suitable packing way is also taken into consideration.
Technology / Function Diagrams
The test illustrates the severity of military vibration testing all our equipment across the range is designed to withstand. This is a production monitor with rear mounted power supply and side mounting bracket being shock/vibration tested.
The entire assembly was subjected to a series of scans to determine the resonant frequency in each axis and then the equipment was subjected to a 3 hour endurance test at the least favourable test orientation and frequency. A 30g shock test was also carried out successfully on this equipment. This comprised of 3 three positive & three negative direction shocks in each of the three perpendicular axes.
1. Vibration Test
The purpose of vibration test is to check the mechanical resonance in all 3 directions (X, Y and Z). With the testing result our mechanical engineers can optimize the design and make the product most reliable for the usage. During and after this procedure the product needs to be 100% functional and normal-function.
